Iulia-Andreea Smeu *KITE – Violin/Electronics and Project Leadership (RO/CH)
Iulia-Andreea Smeu (RO/CH) is a composer, violinist, and researcher exploring the intersections of sound, embodiment, and perception. Her practice combines immersive sonic environments, processed instruments, and spatialized electronics to investigate alternative experiences of time and relational listening.
Iulia-Andreea’s artistic research engages with Deep Listening practices and posthuman theoretical frameworks, examining the transformation of the listening body in hybrid performance spaces. Her works, including her projects Phantom Limbs and Listen. Do You Remember the Sound of My Voice? foreground attentive listening and sonic imagination, creating reflective and participatory auditory experiences.
Iulia was part of the Witness.earth Openlab (a project of the Basel Music Academy) as a transdisciplinary researcher, with a focus on ecological awareness and interconnectivity. She represented the project at the Artistic Research Conference 2024 in Klagenfurt, Austria. Iulia is currently training to become a Deep Listening facilitator at the Center for Deep Listening at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and from September 2025 she will begin the One-Year Sonology Program at the Royal Conservatory The Hague, where she will research the theme of Temporal Embodiment in Sonic Spaces.
