Sara Culmann
Sara Culmann is a visual artist living and working in Amsterdam.
Their practice spans video, games, computer-generated imagery, and artistic research.
They explore themes such as anthropological perspectives on digital technologies, often viewed through the lens of marginalized classes and genders, the paradoxes of progress, and the ways digital tools both shape and are shaped by cultural representation.
Sara graduated from the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam and was a fellow of the AI Anarchies program at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin and Nieuwe Instituut, Rotterdam.
Their work has been exhibited at STRP Festival (2024), Eindhoven; Akademie der Künste, Berlin (2023); HeK – Haus der Elektronischen Künste, Basel (2021); Art Encounters Biennial, Timișoara (2021); and the Museum of Modern Art, Moscow (2018).
Sara also teaches animation software at the Prague Media School and has lectured in the educational program at the Moscow Experimental Film Festival, as well as Pause/Play: Culture Under Pressure in Tbilisi, Georgia.
